When many people hear the words clinical trials, history, and mistrust come to mind. But at the same time, diseases like prostate cancer continue to impact men every day — and research remains one of the most powerful tools we have to improve outcomes.
In this important conversation, host Reggie Hicks — prostate cancer survivor and founder of If You Are My Brothers — is joined by Dr. Monica Webb Hooper, Acting Director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Together, they explore the legacy of medical mistrust, modern research protections, and why participation in clinical trials is essential — especially for Black men facing higher rates of prostate cancer.
"If 'You Are My Brothers" is a documentary and outreach project that follows the journeys of two African-American men dealing with prostate issues. Ralph Franklin, a real estate lawyer with a PSA level of 100 and a terminal prognosis, meets a physician who helps him prepare to live rather than succumb to the disease. Reggie Hicks, the documentary's producer, is diagnosed with the same illness while chronicling Ralph's story. This single narrative develops into two distinct yet deeply connected stories — two men facing their own challenges, united by a shared bond of brotherhood and hope.

In this edition of If You Are My Brothers, we share powerful stories and new conversations moving men from awareness to action in the fight against prostate cancer. From expert insights to community impact, discover how you can join the movement to change the narrative around men’s health.
